The New Jersey Devils are back in the New Jersey groove.
After a rough 2024 season, new head coach Sheldon Keefe led the team to 42-33-7 record and a playoff berth this year even without star Jack Hughes for the last month.
Starting Sunday, April 20, Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt’s upstart squad will see if they have what it takes to satisfy the fanbase yet again when they kick off their first-round series against Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho’s Carolina Hurricanes at Raleigh’s Lenovo Center.
Games 3, 4 and a hypothetical sixth contest all go down at Newark’s Prudential Center on Friday, April 25, Sunday, April 27 and Friday, May 2, respectively.
This meeting will be the sixth between the two clubs in the Stanley Cup playoffs. As of now, the Hurricanes hold the edge over the Devils, having won four of the five series.
“It will be challenging,” Hischier, 26, said. “We know they’re a very hard team to play against. They don’t give you much time and we just got to be ready, up to the challenge. We got to be skating, they’re a good skating team as well, so it’ll be a fast game out there. They don’t give you much room and we just got to be ready for that.”
While sizing up against the ‘Canes may prove to be a formidable challenge, New Jersey fans are doing their best to stay optimistic even after splitting the four-game 2024-25 season series.
“If Jacob Markstrom plays like he did back in December and January, he can win us some games,” Devils diehard Jonathan Santillana claimed.
