This depressing, soap-operatic season that has taken a bite out of everyone associated with it will be in the rearview by 10 p.m. Thursday night. That will start the clock on 2025-26.

And for K’Andre Miller, the impending restricted free agent who will become GM Chris Drury’s most critical offseason player personnel decision, the best way for him to get a head start on next season would be for him to be on the ice with Team USA for the World Championships that will be held in Sweden commencing May 9.

“I haven’t put on a USA sweater for a number of years. I would love to do that again and represent our country,” said Miller, who was a member of Team USA for both the 2019 and 2020 World Juniors. “The way this season ended would be an opportunity to end on a little bit of a higher note.”

The 25-year-old defenseman said he has not heard from Team USA general manager Jeff Kealty, the assistant GM of the Predators whose personnel decisions will be in consultation with an advisory board featuring 10 US-born NHL GM’s that includes Drury.
