Legendary Caitlin Clark scrimmage video resurfaces after David Letterman interview

A video of Fever superstar Caitlin Clark making five straight logo three-pointers in a college scrimmage with Iowa made waves on social media Tuesday.

The footage seemingly emerged online when the former Hawkeyes point guard made an appearance on Netflix’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman,” where she recalled dropping 22 points in two minutes to defeat a men’s practice team in a closed scrimmage.

“So I think I had 22 points in two minutes, was the moral of the story,” Clark said when Letterman asked about “one iconic scrimmage” in her college days.

Clark, who became the NCAA’s Division I leading scorer for men and women’s basketball while at Iowa, added her team was down 15 points when she went on a heater.

“It was funny because we had a high school girls’ basketball team there that day, so we had a little audience and we were in our practice gym. And they were jumping out of their chairs going crazy,” she said. “Usually, I never react when I hit a big shot, or I do, but never in a shocked way.

“After my fifth three in a row in a minute, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I couldn’t believe it. I was running around. We ended up winning. Our boy practice players didn’t hear the end of it, they still don’t. I still love to bring it up to them. We walk a lot of crap.”

Clark downplayed the “iconic scrimmage” at first and said “nobody knows if it actually happened” before getting into some of the details.

It appears the video was initially posted a year ago but did not gather much attention.

As Clark’s interview with Letterman made the rounds online, so did the footage of her incredible shooting stretch.

Her three-pointers came from logo spots on the court, and some were off-balance.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, a known supporter of Clark, reposted the clip and called the WNBA All-Star “the one.”

“This may be the most incredible Caitlin Clark video I’ve ever seen,” Portnoy wrote. “A lost scrimmage video vs the men’s practice team at Iowa in which Caitlin goes berserker mode and scores 22 points in 2 minutes. She is the one.”

Clark went on to win WNBA Rookie of the Year after the Fever selected her with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft.

The Hawkeyes retired her No. 22 jersey in February.
