‘Snow White’ remake banned in Lebanon due to Gal Gadot’s Israel support
Lebanon is taking a hard stance again “Snow White” actress Gal Gadot.
The country has banned the controversial Disney remake from playing in movie theaters due to Gadot’s support of Israel, according to local media (via Variety).
Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar reportedly ordered the ban amid Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah.
Gadot’s other past films like “Death on the Nile” and “Wonder Woman” were similarly outlawed from screening in the country.
Lebanon also recently banned “Captain America: Brave New World” because the Marvel movie stars Israeli actress Shira Haas.
Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen in “Snow White,” served in the Israel Defense Forces and has openly supported her home country in its war against Hamas.
After the Oct. 7 attacks, Gadot wrote on social media, “My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people.”
Last month, Gadot got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame but the ceremony was interrupted by both pro-Palestine and pro-Israel protesters. The pro-Palestinian group held signs that read, “Heros Fight Like Palestinians,” “Viva Viva Palestina” and “No Other Land Won Oscar.”
Law enforcement had a presence at the event and broke up a clash between the protestors. Police were also spotted handcuffing a number of protesters, according to TMZ.
Gadot’s views are opposite to those of her “Snow White” co-star Rachel Zegler, who notably wrote “Free Palestine” on X after the first trailer for the live-action Disney remake was released online.
The pair’s different political views allegedly caused behind-the-scenes drama that led to them not doing press together when they promoted the film. Sources also told People that the two stars have “nothing in common.”
Additionally, Variety reported in March that Gadot received an influx of death threats after Zegler shared her pro-Palestine message on social media.
Disney even allegedly had to hire more security to protect the Israeli-born actress.
“She didn’t understand the repercussions of her actions as far as what that meant for the film, for Gal, for anyone,” one insider told the outlet of Zegler.
Before the “Snow White” remake came out, Zegler also sparked backlash for calling the animated 1937 film “extremely dated.” She later went on a social media rant against those who voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
“Snow White” ultimately bombed at the box office, grossing around $180 million worldwide on a production budget of over $240 million.
