Popular Trader Joe’s $3 mini tote already reselling for a whopping $1K — as stores restock and brace for another rush

Trader Joe’s beloved mini tote is back with new colors and the $2.99 item, which has become coveted by fashionistas, is now being resold on sites such as eBay and Poshmark for up to $1,700.
This year for spring, the bite-sized bags come in pastel shades of pink, blue, green and purple, prompting long lines out the grocery store doors.
“When it comes to our reusable bags, our customers have made themselves abundantly clear: the smaller the tote, the bigger the sensation,” the product page says.
“Last year, when we introduced our Mini Canvas Totes, we were so pleasantly surprised by their rapturous reception that we’re bringing in even more Mini Totes, this time in a series of Pastel shades to herald the beginning of spring.”
The most expensive listing currently on eBay is one single tote bag in pastel pink for $1,699.
One pastel purple bag is listed for $1,600, a pastel blue tote is going for $1,400, and a pastel green bag is listed for $1,100.
There are some cheaper listings as well, including one set of all four pastel colors for $400 — which is on the low end compared to the four-digit listings.
This isn’t the first time Trader Joe’s mini totes were resold at astronomical prices due to the high demand.
In March 2024, the 13 x 11 x 6 in. carriers quickly became a sensation — with customers waiting in long lines just to get their hands on one.
After selling out last March, the limited-edition item was restocked in September — and sold out just as quickly.
According to Pix11, the mini canvas tote bags will be available in some New York City stores by Wednesday morning.
Shipments are expected to come in Tuesday, April 8, with sales beginning on Wednesday at locations including City Point, Williamsburg, Murray Hill and Harlem, store representatives told the outlet.
Other locations — including the Trader Joe’s in Shrewsbury, New Jersey — have already begun to sell their shipments.
Some Trader Joe’s locations will be limiting how many bags each customer can purchase. Trader Joe’s advised customers to ask a Crew Member in their neighborhood store about availability.
